Thyagaragar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in the town of Thiruvarur, His consort Parvathi is depicted as Kondi. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Devaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Most famous festival - Annual chariot festival

Thygarajaswamy temple is celebrated during April – May, correspondong to the Tamil month of Chitrai. The chariot is the largest of its kind in Asia and India weighing 300 tonne with a height of 90 feet. The chariot comes around the four main streets surrounding the temple during the festival. The event is attended by lakhs of people from all over Tamil Nadu. The chariot festival is followed by the "Theppam", meaning float festival.
